The M.Sc in Molecular and Human Genetics offered by Banaras Hindu University is a unique course in many aspects. MHG is a result of the herculean efforts of the Cyto-genetics faculty of BHU, who visioned for a course that would fill the huge gap in higher education in India. The importance of Genetics in today's world is of common knowledge to be mentioned here again. But unfortunately there are few Universities in India that offer a specialized course in Genetics. And also there are no proper training facilities that would provide the necessary manpower in this post-genomic era.

MHG hopes to meet all these needs and many more. It is a special two year course offered by BHU and has many unique features like:


1. It is the only course in India that is open to graduates in any field of science or agriculture or medicine. There is no other course in India that is open to both life science and physical science graduates.

2. Students get to do a project in their final year .

3. All the techniques in genetics, cell biology and molecular biology are taught.

4. Some of the topics are taught by guest faculty from other Universities in India and abroad. This gives the students a unique opportunity to interact with highly reputed professionals.

5. Much emphasis is given to practical experience in the lab.

6. Students get to work in the highly equipped Cyto-genetics lab of BHU and this gives them a chance to interact with the research scholars here. This way students are exposed to hardcore research and they get to learn many things by first hand observation.

7. And some parts of the course like the 'dream project' and the clinical assignment are novel to Indian education system.

8. In short this is one course that would enable students to learn all aspects of Genetics and science in general. It is the constant endeavor of the faculty, who work incessantly to ensure, that students going out from MHG are on par with the best in the world.
